Thanks for correction!:)- Let's just say it is FREE and You are able to download the source of the Eternal Lands client.Date: 2007-02-13 19:21:03 User: Draconishinobi Subject: Re: Interesting, but not worth it in theI completely agree with you. And one more reason to add to the list.
They banned my isp.Date: 2007-02-14 13:26:49 User: anonymous Subject: Re: no 3D?Actually, I don't see any sense in publishing the source if you're not allowed to modify it!?Date: 2007-02-14 13:41:17 User: Misfit Subject: Very good but a few minor complaints.I tried EL for the first time a few months ago, and for the time I played it quite a bit. I really enjoyed it, however, there are certain aspects that ultimately led me up to stop playing.Levelling up earlier on is a grind, and by that I mean too many bunnies, rats, beavers and the like, for too long. I imagine as the story and game continues development this will be addressed, but man. You can easily spend hours at first doing this. It gets more interesting when you start making essenses and learning the game, but there is a huge step it seems between the smaller animals and the larger. Then you have the aggressive creatures.like daaaaaaang.Obviously graphical comparisons can be drawn to Runescape, but the actual models are much better obviously. Also the interface seemed to work better for me, more intuitive I think.
I would prefer to be able to zoom out more but I understand this is the way it's designed and how the maps are laid out. But not being able to see very far or click easily on the smaller creatures was a pain. The fact is, the systems in place work, and work well. I will certainly be giving the new update a try. Needs more story, and role playing to make the grinds in the game more palettable, but if you're into Runescape or the like you will probably like it.
I am not sure how it stands up to WoW as I haven't played that at all, but in my opinion EL is well developed and has a promising future.4 ★'s for a good game that should only get better with each update.MisfitDate: 2007-02-17 06:06:52 User: anonymous Subject: Re: GPLFuck. If you're going to make your source free, then make it free, gawdammit. But, whatever.
People can do whatever the hell they want. The game doesn't totally blow, but the 'fun' factor wore off after the first day for me. I can't be bothered to register, but I'd only give it 2 stars.Date: 2007-02-18 11:58:32 User: darkoromanov Subject: Eternal LandsHi, have tried this game, with a very little experience of MMORPG (ragnarok) and I have to say EL is not bad, it has many iteresting point that a day could make it a good game. But there's one thing that made me stop this game after one day. I've lost all of my equip just because I died:-( I really can't understand this rule. I don't want to play now.
I have to re-do the tutorial quest to get again my armor, sword and helm?? Boring.Date: 2007-02-19 21:45:08 User: anonymous Subject: Re: Eternal LandsNono.Wrong attitude. It's a game. It's not that you have to do it again.
It's that you get to do it again.:PIt's a nasty thing, rpgs. Your playing as a virtual character. What happens to you when you die? That's what gives you the stress and the challenge. If you could just go and wack at a monster and try it 30 or 40 times and die 29 or 39 times and get no consiquences then what would be the fun? That being said I never realy got into RPGs myself eitherDate: 2007-02-22 08:19:41 User: anonymous Subject: Re: Eternal LandsSo from reading the comments here, it seems like one main issue with the game is that it has NPCs referring to themselves as NPCs, and they also 'speak' using words like 'n00b'. Judging from the post by the EL moderator (he/she doesn't mention what exactly they moderate as far as I can tell), the people working on this game are more likely computer science majors than English majors. This is the case with almost all 'free' games I've seen.
I'm not really trying to pick on anyone, because I know it takes a lot of time and energy to create a game, and while the storyline may be a big focus for some developers, grammar and spelling almost never are. These are subtleties that really enhance/detract from the overall gaming experience, though. Check out the screen shot for the latest update of Lincity-NG, for example.
There's a spelling error smack dab in the middle of it. Personally, I've tried playing that game and it's so confusing to me as a new player that spelling mistakes aren't as obvious, but eventually it will probably start to feel like it's burning a hole through my monitor. Regardless, if any games that are being developed by amateurs or just in the spare time of a group of friends are trying to eventually compete with corporate pay-to-play games, this is something which will need to be addressed. If I was new to the forum of homegrown games like those featured on this website, I'd honestly have to guess that the developers for at least 60-70% of the games listed here that I've played are from countries where English is not the national language. I bear no ill will towards people who have trouble with English because it's not their first language, but the fact that so many American and British and Canadian (etc.) coders can't even put a sentence together correctly or comprehensibly is disappointing. Anyhow, if the EL moderator who posted here reads this, don't take it as an attack, but constructive criticism, aimed at the genre of homegrown development, not just you or your game.
Try suggesting the formation of a grammar team or something like that, to go through and make what you already have more realistic and readable, and I bet you'll find it will help hold on to the player base. Sorry this is so long, my rant is done.Date: 2007-02-22 14:09:23 User: darkoromanov Subject: Re: Eternal Landswhat is a game? It's a way to escape from reality, it's fancy, imagination. RPG are different from nasty things like 2nd Life.I wouldn't play an RPG where you die without any consequence, I just think that it's boring this system where you loose armor and weapons just because you tried to kill something new. In Ragnarok, when you die, you loose 1% exp and come back into the nearest city, like ConquerOnline, in WOW you have to find your corpse and resurrect, and so on.Date: 2007-03-24 04:48:21 User: anonymous Subject: Re: Eternal Landsur a nut dood suck itDate: 2007-04-12 06:31:50 User: anonymous Subject: Eternal LandsIf you dont like the npc calling you noob just type #humor. It will disable npc jokes.Date: 2007-06-03 23:01:59 User: anonymous Subject: Re: Eternal LandsYes.
I never understood why people play that piece of crap. It's a Diablo 2 with more than 16 players, I call it a MMOCLICK. All you do is gank monsters until you are 6070 then you gank players. An RPG should encourage ROLE PLAYING, not NUMBER CHASING, it should give power to players (eg: no NPC guards, no NPC shops, all player made/decided) etc. These MMOCLICKS are simply stupid, just play diablo 2 and save yourself the monthly fee.Death should be tough but not frustrating, especially in PVP style games. Also anti PVP measures (but not disabling PVP) should be in place etc.
But I just lost my self in this rant:)Date: 2007-06-03 23:03:00 User: anonymous Subject: Re: Eternal LandsI ment anti-PVP as in 'old players ganking newbies':)Date: 2007-06-04 02:40:13 User: dejan Subject: Screenshot is more than 2 years old!It is very important to say that EL screenshot on TLGT is very much outdated. For newer screenshots please check ScreenShots section of the official Eternal Lands web-site:.Date: 2007-07-16 05:53:51 User: salmaklak Subject: Very interestingI found the interface a little hard to get used to, but that is mainly because there is so much that a player can tweak. Changing the view perspective gives a much further and nicer view for me. I didn't like the standard view where I couldn't see very far at all.Very nice once I completed the tutorial and had a better idea of what to do.Date: 2007-09-01 06:11:57 User: anonymous Subject: Great GameI recommend this game to everyoneDate: 2007-09-01 06:15:58 User: anonymous Subject: Had a few issuesStarting in Isla Prima was hard, the tutorial thing didn't help much, they could help newbies a bit more in there.Date: 2007-09-09 08:19:40 User: anonymous Subject: el cheatsgo to www.eternal-hacks.tk for the best free Eternal lands HACKS!! Gimme a TBS anyday. After playing EL for about 3 weeks, I got really tired of running around killing stuff to get materials, then standing around trying to sell said materials in order to buy enough food to game. Tiresome at best.Date: 2007-09-17 21:03:57 User: anonymous Subject: Eternal LandsMy mother said, to get things done, you'd better not mess with Major Tom.Date: 2007-11-19 19:54:40 User: bjbdragon Subject: source code entryWould it be possible to get an entry for TLGT entries source code available: partial?
